Perhaps someone can clear this up for me since I do Net-Metering… Why would a small solar producer go with NC GreenPower? From my understanding, with NC GreenPower you are required to have a second meter, with a monthly charge of around ($15 per month), then pay some administrative charges to the power company ($2-3 [...]
I will be teaching two introductory solar energy classes in August, 2011 at the RCCC North Campus in Salisbury, NC. Each class is 2 hours long. To register for any of the following classes, please call continuing education registration at 704-216-3512 or 704-216-RCCC (7222) to register over the phone. Class information follows: Basics of Solar Electric [...]
Last February I wrote pages of posts to *prove* my solar payback numbers. Today, Kat mentioned an interesting article in the Saturday, July 2nd Salisbury Post. Title: Duke Energy wants 17 percent increase on homes. The last rate increase was in 2009 according to the article. Here is a link to the story in the [...]
Net Metering with our solar has really worked out well. In April of 2011 we carried 38 kWh over into May (meaning we made more electricity than we used). In May 2011, our total electricity used amounted to less than $6.00. Total savings per day amounts to around $4.00 (per day).
Looking forward to sharing my plug-in for WordPress that displays Solar Production in the sidebar (once the Enphase Enlighten API comes out of beta). My plug-in is written in PHP and is all server-side.
I am presenting on Renewable Energy, specifically solar PV electric and solar thermal on Monday, March 14 at 7PM in the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center here in Salisbury, NC. Click here to view my presentation: http://www.kenclifton.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Renewable_Energy.ppt
I learned the hard way that Duke Energy Carolinas has incorrect information published on their Net Metering rate schedule. This cost me my first Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) for my solar PV production. Even now, almost 2 months after this was brought to my attention by Duke Energy, the same rate schedule is still on [...]
Interconnection Approved for Second 2.8 kW Array! We received permission from Duke Energy to turn on our second 2.8 kW solar array at 1 PM today. This should boost our daily electricity production to over 30 kW on a sunny day in the Winter. Since the days are longer in the Summer the number should [...]
Hooray! We received interconnection permission from Duke Energy today! You may view our system production at: http://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/public/systems/Vhdk9078 Also, Peter Larsen came by and covered the trench and seeded the lawn Saturday. It looks a lot better! I highly recommend Peter Larsen of SunTec Solar for Solar Thermal and Solar PV work, he did an outstanding [...]
